As a writer, I tend to look at my surroundings: people, things, and places. I wonder the stories behind the faces, the journey of those things, and what life might have looked like back in the day in those places I now stand in.

Lately, when I look around, all I see are faces without expressions. Their eyes don’t shine with wonder anymore and rarely do I see their pearly white teeth. It seems like everyone is in a hurry and too busy to notice their surroundings. But the saddest part is that we rarely look at people. We rarely meet their eyes.

When I was younger, I was told that out of respect, when we would shake peoples hand, we had to look down, but I was also taught to always acknowledge people and say “good morning” or “goodnight”. And somewhere I read that “We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do” by Mother Teresa.

It’s crazy how a smile, which won’t cost you much, can impact a life.

Personally, when someone smiles at me in the streets it brightens my day. When someone smiles at me it brings out a smile on my face which then brings joy and believe it or not,I seem to see things more beautiful.

I want to make this short and simple: SMILE.

Dare To Smile! Even when it seems hard to smile or impossible to smile. Even when there seems to be no reason to smile, SMILE.

Every morning I have to remind myself this and although somedays are not easy, I've chosen to smile purposely. Not only does smiling can turn your day around, but it can make someone’s day cheerful creating a chain. We might never know the impact that a simple smile can make but wouldn’t it be wonderful to see some good in someone’s face once in a while?
